Main settings of the simulations

Anthropogenic Dust

This is the first simulation we provided for AeroCOM-PhaseIII. Then it has the same settings that in CRESCENDO project. That means that LMDZORINCA is version 6, and with modified rhv files. They are stored at: rhv files PDN

INCA-AER-BC experiments

Version LMDZORINCA 6.1.10 with the following changes

  1. It has been set flag_BC_internal_mixing=.TRUE. in the code (for more information about BC optical properties check here
  1. The dust emissions have a new factor named fq_antro that is just a constant factor per grid-cell to the emissions, it has been used previously for the Anthropogenic Experiment for Paul Ginoux. For the other simulations it is just an array of ones, so it doesn't have any effect. This fq_antro has been also used for other studies to restrict the emissions to specific regions.
  1. New diagnostics has been added to LMDZ code:
  • abs440aer, abs550aer, abs870aer
  • abs440bc, abs550bc, abs870bc
  • abs440oa, abs550oa, abs870oa
  • abs440dust, abs550dust, abs870dust
  • abs440bcin, abs550bcin, abs870bcin (bc-insoluble)
  • abs440bcsin,abs550bcsin,abs870bcsin (bc-soluble-internally-mixed)
  • abs440bcs, abs550bcs, abs870bcs (bc-soluble-externally-mixed)
  • od550aer3d (od550 but 3d field)
  • ec550dust (extinction of dust)
  1. The LMDZ xml files has been extended and also the final names of several variables updated to conform the AeroCOM requirements. The monthly, daily and hourly file definitions has been reorder by alphabetically to be able to check better that all requirements are incorporated.
  1. The files that provide soil information for dust emission are based on v2, the default INCA-AER. You can check they at cards files for INCA-AER-BC

General Tests

It has been tested the year 2005 month by month, and it is used as the spinning for the simulation. Note that for year 2005 we have emissions of 985 Tg/yr of mineral dust, with specific files of soil information developed for CRESCENDO, but for this simulation finally it has been selected the soil information of _v2 given as default as with the LMDZORINCA 6.1.10 the emissions with those files are fine about 1300 Tg/yr and the optical depths of dust are very reasonable 0.0027 global value.

2.5 CONTEXT

  • In LMDZ we have a context file that indicates which files have to be created. In this case I have the file :download:context_lmdz.xml <CARDS/context_lmdz.xml>.
