We are currently looking to fill the posts of senior software developer and senior ocean Modeller or software developer within Plymouth Ocean Forecasting Centre (POFC), Plymouth University, UK. Details are as follows

1. Senior Software Developer

Job Description - Plymouth Ocean Forecasting Centre (POFC) is very excited to be working on UAE-Ocean, a major project funded by the government of the United Arab Emirates, as well as a number of other ocean modelling projects. The goal of UAE-Ocean is to develop an Ocean Monitoring and Forecasting centre in the United Arab Emirates based on the latest technology in ocean modelling. To ensure the successful delivery of POFC projects, the University of Plymouth Enterprise Limited (UoPEL, a wholly owned subsidiary of University of Plymouth) is looking for a senior software developer to develop primarily Windows applications. Other aspects of the project include the development, validation and delivery of a set of numerical oceanographic, wave and underwater acoustics models, post-processing tools, end-user applications and the training of UAE staff. If you are keen to participate in a project to develop and deliver comprehensive end-user applications for the new Ocean Forecasting Centre in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), then this is the perfect role for you. You will also be expected to contribute to the on-the-job training of customer staff as well to support the wider University agenda. The role involves travel both in the UK and overseas as well as working visits to the Ocean Forecasting Centre in the United Arab Emirates lasting up to three months each. The post is initially until 30 April 2020, with the potential to extend.

You will work within a small software development / ocean modelling team and will develop and maintain collaborations with external bodies, including the customers and project partners. You will proactively contribute to the training of customer staff, develop technical documentation for the software, and carry out acceptance tests for the software products. You will be required to provide software support and maintenance, remotely and in person.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 30 April 2020.

2. Senior Ocean Modeller or Software Developer

Job Description- Do you have experience in numerical modelling and software development and ideally, a background in oceanography or meteorology? If so, the University of Plymouth Enterprise Limited (UoPEL) has an opportunity for you to demonstrate your ability as a senior ocean modeller / software developer on the UAEOcean project funded by the government of the United Arab Emirates. The goal of the project is to develop an Ocean Monitoring and Forecasting centre in the United Arab Emirates based on the latest technology in ocean modelling and observations. The project includes the development, validation and delivery of a set of numerical oceanographic and wave models, post-processing tools, end-user applications and training of UAE staff.

You will be responsible for the advice, development and delivery of comprehensive, customer-focused ocean models and supporting software for the UAE Ocean Forecasting Centre. You will contribute to the on-the-job training of customer staff in UAE. You will travel both in the UK and overseas, your working visits to the Ocean Forecasting Centre in the United Arab Emirates will last up to 3 months each.
