PHC_9 run

This run is based on the PHC_8 one except on the way the wind stress and module are managed.
Wind stress seems to be too low (in PHC_8) in high latitudes compared to what we have in using standard
CLIO data this component is capital for the water mass formation & penetration in these areas so it must be increased.
So we do the following test:

  • compute off-line the daily climatology of the fields (wndm.u)clim and (wndm.v)clim using 6hourly wind velocities.
  • we use the wind module computed with the 6hourly wind velocities which is much more energetics than the one computed using climatological velocities.

Note that we don't substract the ocean/sea-ice velocities when computing the wind module since this last is now read.

Since the wind stress increased, its curl also increases, so convergence of waters in sub-tropical gyres is stronger
which implies penetration of warmer waters in both hemispheres associated to a depenning of the thermocline (cf. zonal mean temperature plot).
It is the same behaviour in sub-polar gyres in opposite way.
