UKMO.1 — AMM + Coastal shelf modelling
Motivation: A standard configuration with S-coords and non linear free surface is required so that all update to NEMO can be applied and tested to such a configuration
Status : Basic configuration exists, required to be finalized and then included as a standard configuration.
Main tasks : Provision of Standard S-Coord Non Linear Free Surface Shelf Seas Configuration including sample rivers, 12km bathy.
Science Reviewer: N/A
System Reviewer: Gurvan Madec?
Deadline: Sep 2011
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Enda O'Dea
UKMO.2 — GODAE metrics
Motivation:To improve GODAE metrics (computation of meridional heat transport, meridional stream functions and transport through sections)
Status :Not started
Main tasks :To adapt the code for irregular grids and rotated grids
Science Reviewer:Clement Bricaud?
System Reviewer:
Deadline:
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Catherine Guiavarc'h
UKMO.3 — Rewriting rebuild
Motivation: To speed up the process of rebuilding NEMO output files and restart files.
Status : Most of the coding is done but it needs a little tidying up and generalising.
Main tasks : Tidying up the code and running some speed/memory usage and reproducability tests (including ensuring the results are the same as given by the old rebuild).
Science Reviewer: N/A?
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila?
Deadline: TBA
Priority: Low/Medium??
Principal Investigator: Ed Blockley (ed.blockley@…)
UKMO.4 — Include radiation conditions in BDY
Motivation: As part of the merge of OBC and BDY, the OBC radiation condition needs to be implemented in BDY
Status : Not started
Main tasks :
Science Reviewer: OBC user
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila?
Deadline:
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Dave Storkey
UKMO.5 — Develop a capability to allow OBC users to use BDY
Motivation: It is planned to suppress OBC in the long term and use BDY for open boundary conditions. We need to develop tools or code to make it easy for OBC-style boundary data files to be used with BDY.
Status : Not started.
Main tasks :
Science Reviewer: OBC user
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila?
Deadline:
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Dave Storkey
UKMO.6 — Adapt BDY to use fldread
Motivation: For efficiency and code maintainability, we want to adapt BDY to use the SBC fldread module to manage the reading in of data from data files.
Status : Not started.
Main tasks :
Science Reviewer: N/A?
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila?
Deadline:
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Dave Storkey
UKMO.7 — Validation toolkit rewriting (in collaboration with LOCEAN)
Motivation: NVTK is to be replaced with something more generally flexible, adaptable, maintainable and portable.
Status: Commencing investigation into possible "off-the-shelf" solutions.
Main tasks:
- Investigate possibility of using the Met Office User Test Framework (UTF) system - RH (1 week)
- Assess UTF viability once basic NEMO functionality installed - RH (1 Week)
- SV develop basic SETTE system while awaiting outcome of UTF development/tests.
Science Reviewer: Simona Flavoni
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila
Deadline: TBA
Priority: Medium/High?
Principal Investigator: Richard Hill (richard.hill@…) - consultancy role.
UKMO.8 — Interface between NEMO & multicategory sea-ice (CICE and LIM3)
Motivation: Useful for comparing sensitivity to different sea ice models and to allow climate runs with LIM3
Status : Some worked started in 2010.
Main tasks : Allow sbccpl interface to work with multi-category fields atmosphere fields for both LIM3 and CICE. (6w)
Science Reviewer : Sebastien Masson
Potential System Reviewer : Sebastien Masson
Deadline : 1st June 2011
Priority : Medium
Principal Investigator : Chris Harris (christopher.harris@…)
UKMO.9 — Subtimestepping in TOP
Motivation: Need to be able to properly substep the TOP routines with the VVL code.
Status : I seem to have it working in 3.2 but it will need substantial work to fit into the NEMO framework and 3.3.
Main tasks : Create new variables for time means of physics fields and set up appropriate calls to recalculate necessary variables based on those averages. Ensure that the correct time means are being used by the advection and diffusion routines
Science Reviewer: Gurvan Madec
System Reviewer: Christian Ethé
Deadline:
Priority:High
Principal Investigator: Karen Edwards (karen.edwards@…)
UKMO.10 — OBS and ASM improvements
Motivation: Maintain and improve the data assimilation interface code.
Status: Code is in vn3.3 but requires maintenance and upgrades.
Main tasks: (3w)
- Maintain the OBS and ASM code.
- Implement and test any upgrades to the OBS and ASM code.
- Improve the documentation for the OBS and ASM code.
- Develop the test environment so that it includes tests for the OBS and ASM functionality.
- Include OBS tools.
Science Reviewer: To be reviewed by NEMOVAR partners and CMCC representative
System Reviewer: Rachid Benshila
Deadline: 30 September 2011
Priority: Medium
Principal Investigator: Daniel Lea (daniel.lea@…)
