+OK so I have a partial package branch which i can use for debugging, for now.

+Another day of write statements leads us further and further towards variables named iswabsn, iswabs and iswab. This seems to me to be the first thing which diverges. 
+But I can't find the point at which it diverges or is even set on the initial TS of the restart.

+Close examination reveals that this variable only has a non zero value on the very first timestep after a restart. Why? It has a sister variable Swabsn, Sswabs,Sswab which never seems to get anything but zeros. I really don't understand that. 
+
+Talking to Alex, he says this is expected and that Iswab SHOULDN'T affect model evolution IN COUPLED cases because it's not used. Really? So  why does it have a non zero value after a restart, where does that value come from and is it really so benign?

+If that's true then I've been chasing a red herring for the last 2 days solid and that will lead us back to my CICE A2 differences in zqsn and zqin and fcondbot.which points at the temperature_changes routine.
