Description
We found that for the global ORCA1 setup (UK) and nemo_2.3, ice-ocean instabilities can develop, likely triggered by convection below the ice. The fix we have found is to lag in the velocity in time from un/vn to ub/vb in the gathering of the surface velocities in icestp.F90 in the fields u_io/v_io.
At nfice=1, this would make sense since this is the way one treats friction in leapfrog.
For nfice>1, it also seems to help but then the logic is a bit lost on me...
